Last week we told you we were working on an interface to control automatic WordPress background updates directly from within iControlWP.
Today that new feature has arrived and it’s easy to get started and it’ll take about 1 minute to see how to use it 🙂
How to get started with automatic WordPress Background updates
Please note: WordPress version 3.7.1 is the minimum required version for this feature.
We’ve made it super-easy to kick off automatic updates – you simply need to select the plugins you wish to have WordPress automatically update.
To do this, each plugin entry on your site listing will have an automatic update slider and you just click the slider to enable the feature.
See image below:
The simple slider system makes it obvious which plugins are set to automatically update and which aren’t.
Suggestions on improvements
Automatic WordPress updates are a great step forward in streamlining the WordPress management workflow, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.
You must take care on which plugins and themes you enable this feature and make sure you have reliable WordPress backups on-hand to help out if things go wrong.
If you have any suggestions and ideas on how we can improve this tool for you, please let us know.

Hey Paul, great feature. Is it possible to turn off email notifications that WP sends out through icontrolwp? Or do we still have to do it manually in the functions.php file?
View CommentHi Viktor,
That’s not an option just yet, but I think we’d add that first to the Simple Firewall and then bring that through into the iControlWP interface.
Thanks for the suggestion, and glad to hear you like it!
