Email is great, but it’s so 1972. We’re getting with the times and one of the first steps in doing so is with iControlWP Mobile Pushover notifications. We’re making it easier and quicker to receive updates from our App.
If you look around you right now, chances are high that your mobile/cellphone is within arm’s reach. If it’s not, it’s probably charging in the corner.
We all use our mobiles for messages, alerts, snapchats etc. It’s fast and convenient. That’s why we we’re bringing this level convenience to iControlWP.
Get Instant Alerts Straight To Your Phone
Phone alerts can be annoying, but they’re also helpful. If you’re like most people, then your phone is never far from your reach.
Getting alerts through email is okay. It works, kinda. But email simply isn’t the best medium for this sort of message.
This is why we’re bringing mobile alerts so that you can get access to important information, faster.
To get there, we’re going to leverage a very cool mobile push service called “Pushover”. They have native support for iOS, Android and Windows. A wonderful bonus is that you can even get these notifications sent to the browser on your desktop computer (for a extra Pushover fee).
How Pushover Notifications Work
Pushover is a App that you install on your phone. It is paid – that is, $4.99, at the time of writing. This is a once-off fee and you can register as many devices on your account as you please.
Once you’ve got the App, you’ll get your very own User ID/Key. You can use this key with a load of web services to get instant push notifications to your phone, including iControlWP.
Once you register your User Key with iControlWP, we’ll start using it to push notifications to you.
There are many areas of iControlWP to integrate with Pushover notifications, but these are the areas we’re starting with:

- Our new Site Uptime Monitoring add-on (coming soon!)
- User login notifications

- Simplified two-factor authentication using Pushover notifications
- WorpDrive “website restore complete” notifications

How much do Pushover Notifications cost with iControlWP? Free!
We see mobile notifications as key to our strategy going forward and we’re making all Pushover notifications free.
All you need to do is register your Pushover User/Group Key with the iControlWP App and you’re good to go.
To do this, you can set it under your Profile Preferences page under the Notifications tab.
How to get setup with Pushover Notifications
Here are the main steps you need to take to get setup with Pushover Notification in iControlWP:
- Install the Pushover App for your mobile device (free)
- You’ll have a 7-day trial, but it costs only USD$4.99 / £3.50 to upgrade to premium (paid to Pushover.net)
- Use your phone or the website (the website is easier) to get your Pushover User Key.
- Go to iControlWP User Preference, click on the Notifications tab and enter your User Key, and save.
We’ll validate your key to ensure it’s ready to go and let you know if there’s a problem.
What if you want multiple recipients?
This is easily handled using Pushover’s built-in Groups feature. You simply create a new Group and supply all the User Keys as part of that group. Then, within iControlWP, instead of supplying a User Key, you supply the Group Key instead.
