I manage a lot of WordPress sites, so maintaining updates, backups, optimization and security scans by hand is incredibly time consuming.
I was using ManageWP, but there were numerous issues. First, their backups are performed on your server-side, so if you attempt to backup a large site, it will constantly fail with PHP memory errors. Secondly, updates that were marked as completed often times were not actually performed. Add these issues to the fact that many of my clients have premium plugins, which ManageWP doesn’t support, and you can see why it was this was a no-go for my business model.
I felt defeated. I had to adjust my service offering so that updates and backups were less frequent since I was still doing a large portion of the maintenance by hand. Finally, I had enough and began searching for another option. I decided to give iControlWP with WorpDrive a test drive with a small sample of my personal websites. It didn’t take long at all to realize this was the solution I was after. Backups are performed using their servers, which makes them flawless while reducing loads on your own servers. Updates occur just as they are reported. As a bonus, developing WordPress sites and moving them into production is no longer a chore. You can migrate an entire site in a matter of minutes.
If you’re frustrated with similar plugins, you have to give iControlWP a try. I made the switch and haven’t looked back even once.
